Groundhog Days and Mamma Mia

July 14 , 2008

Came across this jottings of mine during the week-end . Aspiring designer that I am , this early I have already noted down the broad categories of clothing design or even home furnishings design that I would be doing , God willing.
I wrote on September 28, 2006 and I quote :

“ Seven major streams will define and inspire me effort/work in clothing and home furnishings or lifestyle design. These seven streams are anchored on certain ideas and will suffuse the designs such that they will not only speak of or express the identity , the being-ness of the wearer or user , but also will speak of ideas behind the design, likewise the idea of the design will express the being or individuality of the wearer ( What is this ?) These seven main streams will be labeled and called:
Natura - inspired by everything the God created – nature in all its manifestations – plants and animals (lifeforms) , the physical world(mountains, deserts, forests, seas, the elements , the stars, skies, etc..;
Historia – inspired by the events , architecture and artifacts that human beings have conceived of and created from ancient civilizations up to the present ;
Cultura - inspired by the diversity of human culture and way of living as defined by man’s nationality and ethnicity;
Coloura – inspired by light and colours ( for some reasons, I prefer the British spelling ) and by the myriad ways that colours can be combined; the absence and presence of colour, inspired by the meanings and moods that colours convey. This stream is quite personal to me because of my interest in and love of colour;
Moderna/Arta - inspired by art and architectural concepts and the scientific achievements of man. This stream will include avant-gard and futuristic inspirations;
Idea -- inspired by the intangible and non-physical reality of man, of man’s innerworld inspired by concepts as freedom, joy, liberty, beauty,attitudes and character traits such as intelligence, compassion,courage, compassion , love , etc;
Imagica/Phantasia --- inspired by man’s unbridled capacity to imagine, create, visualize beyond reality and the physical dimension. “
(BTW, I finished watching three seasons of Project Runway ---- a very informative show. I was particularly impressed with the challenge involving the creation of avantgard and fantasy designs and at the same time creating the corresponding everyday, commercial, non-runway equivalents …. Good challenge ..)

Another note from the past I’d like keep as a lesson learned … This was written on July 30, 2005 small piece of paper :
This was about recovering a sense of inner innocence that was shattered, perhaps as a part of growing up , of maturing. I was aware that the same kind of inner innocence that was part of youth or childhood can no longer be regained, so I was trying to define a new or appropriate kind of innocence that could be part of my maturity . I came up with these :
“Passive , childish , pollyana-ish innocence that is coupled with ignorance or delusion that negatives do not exist in the world -- this one to be avoided;
Active mature innocence that is coupled with resistance of negatives ;
Pure innocence of Christ … Thank You, Father God. “

Anyways, I was able to groundhog it through Monday . Sunday was great … watched ‘Mamma Mia’ at The Block and it was a quirky, nostalgic, happy , feel- good film with all those ABBA songs from my teenhood , Pierce Brosnan , Meryl Strepp and frisky young actors and actresses, and a great location somewhere in Greece , all sea and sun.
The dusk wedding scene with the squat chapel high up along on a high craggy , rocky hill jutting out from the sea , with the decades of lit steps climbing up to the chapel… fantastically romantic …. Have to find and go to that place … at my age , I still thought that I will get married in that chapel, mismo … and maybe have the band play those dancey ABBA songs during the reception …. Ha-ha ….
